Christina Garsten Elected President of NetIAS

SCAS Principal Christina Garsten has been elected President of NetIAS, the Network of European
Institutes for Advanced Study.

NetIAS is an informal association of twenty-six institutes for advanced study in seventeen European
countries, whose aim is to stimulate a dialogue between the European institutes for advanced study
on IAS practices and possible forms of cooperation. Although diverse in their offers, the member
institutes share the objective of freedom of research and of creating international and multidisciplinary
learning communities.

The member institutes meet biannually: a digital meeting in the spring and a physical meeting held
at one of the member institutes in the autumn. The most recent meeting, at which Garsten was elected,
was hosted by the New Europe College Institute for Advanced Study in Bucharest in late October.

The Swedish Collegium was one of the founding members of NetIAS in 2004, and Garsten will be the
seventh President of NetIAS since the foundation of the network. She succeeds Søren Rud Keiding,
Director of the Aarhus Institute of Advanced Studies, as President.
